Mr. Henry Leon Swanson was the eighth of nine children born to the
union of Mr. and Mrs. James Swanson in Palestine, Anderson, Texas on
October 29, 1929. He attended school in the Palestine Independent School district. He united with the church at an early age and served as long as he was physically able at West Union Baptist Church. he served as Superintendent of Sunday School for many years, director of Vacation Bible School, and was a member of the Senior Choir. He also was a scout master for a Boy Scout Troop and a veteran of the United States Army and the U.S. Air Force where he served for seven years. He united in holy matrimony with Miss Lula Mims, June 12, 1964. There were no children born to this union and the couple adopted a little girl, Miss Toni Swanson. Mr. Swanson departed this life at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Temple, Texas, January 18, 1988 at 10:58 a.m. He is survived by two sons, Frederick Stephens and Henry Leon Swanson, both of Palestine; one adopted daughter, Miss Toni Swanson of Palestine; two grandchildren; three brothers, Mr. Frederick Douglas Swanson of Wichita Falls, Texas, Mr. Chester Swanson, of Dallas and Mr. Jessie Swanson of Galveston; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Marie Aubrey of Palestine, and Mrs. Consuella Jones of Dallas; many cousins, nephews and nieces to mourn his loss. |
